Focus: As tiresome as SPA1 was, it did identify several key weaknesses (and strengths) among this year's 9th grade students. While students are basically good in that they all are willing to work hard and do well, it appears that many students have not had as strong a background in essay writing as they need for high school.

This week's plan seeks to re-approach that goal, but through the use of the green text. The ultimate goal for this unit, which will take about two weeks, will be to write an essay comparing how people in Daphne du Maurier's "The Birds" and people in Sebastian Junger's "The Perfect Storm" cope (handle) danger and risk.

We will be reading / viewing:
  1. "The Birds", p. 50 - 82
  2. Movie Review: "The Birds" p. 91-92
    1. Film: Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds"
  3. "The Perfect Storm", p. 86 - 89
    1. Film: "The Perfect Storm", 2000
