Announcement: Remember to share/print your mid-terms if you haven't already. They weren't held against you but they will be if I don't get them by the end of the week. Mid-Term Prompt Below:

Some students at your school expressed an interest in making the school more attractive by getting rid of the trash on the school grounds.

Write a persuasive essay for your school paper in which you convince your readers of the importance of getting rid of the trash and making the school more attractive.  Convince your readers through the use of specific reasons and examples.

  • Recap on Poe - Some facts about his life that may have influenced his writing (WM)
  • Quick quiz: use a half-sheet of paper. This is for the whole team. 
  • Notes to be made during reading, P. 199
    • connection to his life
    • vocab list
    • basic poem info (1849 - bonus for year's significance)
  • Single sentence summary of the poem.
  • Internet-enabled vocabulary exercise using vocab list: digital gallery walk.
    • Each partner chooses two of the vocabulary words. 
    • Use http://www.merriam-webster.com/ to look up each of the Annabel Lee words.
    • Write the word, its definition, and its word origin on the first slide.
    • Write the word and provide an illustration on the second slide.
    • Write an example sentence using the word on the third slide. Bold & blue the vocabulary word.
    • Name the presentation POE VOCAB: ___(word)______ and share it with Mr. Chow
    • Decide who will gallery walk first. We will do two rounds. 
  • HW questions P. 200 1-4
    • all answers must demonstrate an understanding of how specific vocabulary adds connotative meaning or mood-setting significance to the poem. I will provide an example.
