Focus: We build our Gun Control Projects (online and offline) this week.

Monday: No School.

Tuesday: First 30 minutes are given to parent letters and students printing out essays. Students may finish typing and sharing their essays at this point. In the last 15 minutes of class, students are given instructions on what to do with "their" essay. For power users: share your google docs with each other. Now you don't have to do anything on paper! Make sure, however, that the comments you would've written on paper are written into the google doc.
  • Check format:
    • heading aligned right, SINGLE spaced
    • title centered and first letters capitalized
    • double-spaced
    • no spaces between paragraphs (you don't need to do that when double-spacing)
  • Check for the six key elements of the essay: see framework checklist
  • Check spelling: look for misspelled words (google will underline in red)
  • Check punctuation: periods, colons before lists, semicolons between complete sentences, capitalization
  • Reading Comprehension: look for problem sentences
    • Quotations that are stuck in there all by themselves.
    • Fragments
    • Sentences that are very unclear or don't make sense
  • Each student editor is required to write two reading comprehension comments and two check comments
Wednesday: Make changes to essay from last night's corrections.
  • Discuss experience using google docs to edit
  • Points awarded: check for evidence of editing (both online and on paper)
  • Receive handout on editing guidelines. Students are to spend:
    • 20 minutes editing according to handout
    • 35 minutes rewriting and revising own essay. Students are to do this on paper. Once the revisions have been made, students may go to the computers and type up their papers with their changes (priority given to students without computers at home).
    • Do not write over your original draft. Make a copy of it in google docs and revise the copy.
  • Students who believe their paper has been revised adequately must meet with Mr. Chow for a final go-over.
  • Friday and Monday will be spent only on building projects.
  • Homework:
    • #1: Make your 2nd (final) draft PERFECT. Check for everything!
    • #2: Use the storyboard organizer to plan out your google presentation. All six framework points must be included. Your presentation will be 6 to 9 slides long.
