Important Notice to Parents of 9th CR students

posted Mar 2, 2011, 8:15 PM by Kevin Chow
Parents, Guardians,

Please ask me any questions you may have regarding the closure of the 9th CR program. I am continuing to advocate and look out for your children; however, I can use your help to make sure that all students get the best possible opportunity for success.

At the moment, here are some notes that I've put together. These are the result of many hours of asking for and having meetings with counselors, administrators, and other teachers.

  • The 9th CR program was closed by administrative decision (no teachers or parents were asked for input) on the last day of Semester 1, 2011.
  • All 9th CR students were put into "B" classes: English 10B, Algebra 10B, Biology 10B.
  • Students are expected to complete the "A" classes (English 10A, Algebra 10A, etc) on their own. No information has been given from the administrators thus far on how this is supposed to happen.
  • Many students were placed into incorrect classes. I have, and will continue to, keep checking and working with the school to make sure that all students get placed properly. Please talk to me if you have any concerns - I would be more than glad to talk to you.
  • All 9th CR students who passed with a "D" or better both quarters of Semester 1 should have gotten credit for the whole year of the course (5 credits + 5 credits)
  • All classes in the school are available, theoretically, to all 9th CR students. "Not in this SLC" or "Not in Magnet" should NOT be given as reasons why children cannot be placed in classes.
  • As of 03.02.2011, the administration has been asked what will happen to 9th CR students next year after they complete the "A" portions of their classes missed - what will they take then? The administration has said that they are not sure yet, but will return with an answer.
I will continue to add to this list as I find out more, and negotiate for more.

Please email me at with any questions. Please ask your child to tell me to call you if you do not have email.
